One month until Pumpkins

Currently, there are lots of beautiful, yellow pumpkin flowers blooming, and little pumpkins growing larger. The abundant rain over the last few weeks has been good for our Fall crops, especially after a very dry few weeks.  Fortunately, we have not had the destroying floods and hail that some areas have had.

The pumpkin stand will open in mid-September, possibly as early as Sept 13… depending on the weather.

Strawberry Season Ends

A strawberry. Such a simple, yet unique fruit. (It’s the only fruit with its seed on the outside!) It is bittersweet to announce the end of the strawberry season.  I won’t miss the 5:30am start in the strawberry patch, but I will miss the people.  Thank you to our local community and beyond for your smiles, kind words and loyalty in buying Glen Run Valley View berries.

What a privilege it is to see the joy that strawberries bring to our customers, young and old alike.   Witness the delight of a child picking their own box of berries and proudly setting their box on the scale… concerned that it not be confused with their sibling’s box, because they wish to eat the fruits of their our labor.  Witness the face of an adult as they open the cooler lid and alight with the joy of sight and smell.  Smiles broaden, memories awaken, mouths water, faces shine, eyes dance… ahhhh… strawberries.

One Day More

Our One Last day is MONDAY, June 26.  That’s it. No more. (9am until sold out)

Or for our “Les Miserable” fans…

One Day More

One More day of picking strawberries

For soon they’ll be gone

Before the strawberries are dead

We will surely have fled

One day more

I had not seen until today

The freedom that lies before me

(One day more)

Without strawberries to be picked!

Perhaps I can sleep in in the morning.

One day more

However I got paid for this

The freedom is so near

What’ll I do without do some income?

I can almost see it now!

How will I pay for everything?

Couple hours more to go

If I don’t make more money!

The time is near, we’re almost done!!

One day more

One More Week of Strawberries

June 18, 20 & 22 (Mon/Wed/Fri) will probably be our last days for strawberries.  A limited supply will be available each day, therefore, the stand will close when the berries are sold out.  (On Saturday, June 16, we closed at 11:30am, when all the pre-picked berries were sold and the PYO patch had been totally picked.)

Peak of Strawberry Season

This week and next week are the peak of the season, so don’t put off your trip to the strawberry patch.  Pre picked = $5/qt or $35/flat (8qt in a flat); Jam berries (2nds) = $3/qt or $21/flat.; PYO = $2.00/pound. Open Monday-Friday, 9am-7pm and Saturday, 8am-5pm.  Each day the stand is open until dark, IF there are extra pre-picked berries remaining.

Pre-orders for flats are appreciated at (610)593-5656. Flats are often available morning through mid-afternoon if you stop in, but not guaranteed.

Strawberries Galore

The peak of the strawberry season has begun.  Lots of beautiful berries available daily.  If you plan to make jam or freeze berries, plan to do it this week or next.

“How long will the season last?” is a frequent, but difficult to answer question.  The season is very weather-dependent, and because of the over abundance of rain and wet days, we have lost many berries.  Hot days can also quicken the season significantly.  All that said, we hope to have berries for at least 3 more weeks… but that is a guess.  Don’t wait.  Enjoy all the berries you can while they are here!

Strawberries Are Here!

Strawberry season has officially begun!  Our family enjoyed our first strawberry shortcake yesterday, and by tomorrow (Wed) we will have enough to sell some quarts.  The stand will open at 9:30am (on May 23) and will remain open while supplies last.  Thursday’s supply will be greater and will continue to increase daily.

Strawberries are Coming Soon!

There are glimpses of the greatness to come soon in a Strawberry Patch near you.  After an overabundance of rain, the sunshine this week is sure to bring on the red sweetness of fresh, local strawberries.  We hope to have the Strawberry Stand open this weekend!

Strawberry Season Delayed

With the cold Spring, the Strawberry Season has been pushed back 2-3 weeks.  We hope to have some strawberries ready by Memorial Day weekend.  We will announce our Opening Day as soon as possible.  As you can see in the photo, there are some berries that are currently half-formed. They will need about 2 more weeks of sunshine to ripen into their full sweet, juicy redness.

Pasture-raised Beef for Sale

There are a limited amount of Angus Beef quarters (1/4) available for sale in early March.  Our angus steers are pasture-raised at Glen Run Valley View Farm and finished with a small amount of local grain to increase flavor.  A 1/4 beef typically includes steaks, roasts, and ground beef, but there are many custom options available (like patties, dry beef, bologna, sweet sticks, etc.)  Please contact Jeff at 717-368-6369 for details and pricing.
